The International J/24 is undeniably the most popular racing keelboat in the world, with over 5400 boats being sailed. As a competitive one design racing class, sailors have the ability to race in a multitude of regattas each year at local, national, continental, and world championship levels. Being a strictly managed one design class, a 30 year old hull, built to the same shape and weight with rigid end-grained balsa core construction as today’s new boats, can still be competitive, and and can still win the annual world championship as happened in Rochester at the 2012 Worlds.
The International J/24 Class Association (IJCA) is mandated to encourage, promote and develop expansion of the International J/24 Class throughout the world, and has sole authority worldwide for the conduct and management of the class. The IJCA includes more than 40 active National Class associations spanning The Americas, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The International J/24 is presently built in Argentina, Italy, and the United States. More information on the IJCA may be found at www.j24class.org.
The Canadian J/24 Class Associations (CJCA) is responsible for the promotion and organization of the J/24 class within Canada, and consists of four districts:
– Atlantic (New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island)
– Quebec
– Ontario
– Western (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia)
The management of the class is the responsibility of the class council, which is comprised of the class President, Secretary/Treasurer, National Measurer, and four District Governors, each representing their respective districts.
